Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Manipur today, 862 days after the ethnic violence that shook the region. This marks his first visit to Manipur since the 2023 unrest. For two years, the opposition has targeted PM Modi for not personally assessing the situation in Manipur.

Puneet Kumar Goyal, the Chief Secretary of Manipur, announced that PM Modi will arrive in Manipur on September 13 to inaugurate development projects worth ₹8,500 crores. His visit will begin in Churachandpur, where he will engage with some of the internally displaced residents.

During a press conference, it was revealed that the Prime Minister plans to lay the foundation for multiple development projects worth over ₹7,300 crores in Churachandpur. The visit on September 13 is expected to pave the way for peace, normalcy, and development in the state, according to the state's representatives.

In Churachandpur, one of the areas most affected by ethnic violence, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for a series of projects valued at ₹7,300 crores. However, just two days before his visit, fresh clashes occurred in the city as unknown miscreants caused disturbances and dismantled decorations prepared for the event.

Following the foundation-laying ceremony, PM Modi will address a public gathering before inaugurating projects worth over ₹1,200 crores in the state capital, Imphal. Commenting on the visit, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remarked that Manipur has been in turmoil for a long time, and the Prime Minister's decision to visit now should not be considered a significant move. He emphasized that the main issue in India today is 'vote theft,' and also cited electoral mandates being stolen in Haryana and Maharashtra.

PM Modi to also visit Bihar, Bengal, and Mizoram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's itinerary includes upcoming visits to West Bengal and the electoral state of Bihar, in addition to Manipur. Prior to this, he will tour other northeastern states, starting with Mizoram, where he will initiate and inaugurate development projects worth over ₹9,000 crores in Aizawl. Following his Manipur visit, he will address a public gathering at Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's centenary celebration in Guwahati, scheduled for around 5 PM today.

On September 14, PM Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation for infrastructure and industrial development projects worth more than ₹18,530 crores in Assam. The following day, September 15, he will inaugurate the 16th Joint Commander Conference-2025 in Kolkata, and subsequently head to Bihar to inaugurate the new terminal building at Purnia Airport.
