Prayagraj: Monks Clash over Land Allocation at Maha Kumbh, Engage in Brawl

In Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, tensions among the Akharas have erupted ahead of the grand Kumbh Mela. The Thursday inspection of the lands allocated to the Akharas by the Prayagraj Mela Authority was due. Gathered at the Prayagraj Mela Authority's office, the saints and monks from the various Akharas anticipated the visit to review their plots for the upcoming festival.

During this time, arguments quickly turned into a brawl among the Akhara chiefs, with the saints resorting to punches and kicks. The scene of chaos unfolded within the Mela Authority's office. However, swift intervention by police and administrative officials diffused the tension.

Tension at the Mela Office

The office remains tense following the scuffle over land allocation, but senior officials are working to resolve the dispute and maintain peace among the Akharas.

The grand preparations for the 2025 Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj have already kicked off. The government led by Yogi Adityanath is planning to plant 271,000 saplings to lushly green the event.

Administration Focused on Mela Preparation

The administration is currently engrossed in arrangements for the Maha Kumbh Mela. The Forest Department, investing Rs. 29 crore, is planting 149,000 saplings in Saraswati High-Tech City, transforming it into a green belt. Additionally, trees are being planted along 18 roads to provide a verdant ambiance.

Plan to Greenify Prayagraj

The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation is preparing to plant 61,000 trees in urban areas. Efforts are underway to establish Prayagraj as a model of cleanliness for Maha Kumbh 2025, with extensive work on environmental protection, aiming to set a benchmark.

Collaboration with the Forest Department and Prayagraj Development

The authority is leading a mega afforestation campaign across the region, aiming to increase greenery with the plantation of 271,000 saplings. All administrative departments are working together to create a grand, clean, and lush environment in the city for the Maha Kumbh, ensuring polythene-free zones evolve into green spaces.
