Prime Minister Narendra Modi today responded to the debate over the presidential address in Rajya Sabha with a sharp retort to the opposition, saying, 'Our critics claimed we are a one-third government. I agree, our government is in its tenth year, and we have twenty more to go.'

Indeed, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has previously mocked BJP as a one-third government and Modi as a one-third Prime Minister. Modi's counterattack was a direct response to these taunts.

In Parliament on Wednesday, Modi added, 'It’s a remarkable incident that after 60 years a government has returned for a third term. Even those who deliberately turned away couldn’t grasp it, while others created uproar in such a way that it overshadowed the public’s discernment.'

Accepting Victory and Defeat

He continued boldly, 'For the past two days, I have noticed an acceptance of defeat, albeit with reluctance, and a subdued acknowledgment of victory. I sincerely want to thank some of my Congress colleagues who, ever since the results came out, have stood alone, without open support from their party.'

An Ordinary Man Enters Politics

PM Modi stated, 'The citizens have rejected the politics of illusion and endorsed the politics of trust. Many, like me, who had no one even as village head in their family history, have reached significant positions purely because of the Constitution authored by Baba Saheb, backed by the affirmation of the people.'

‘Holding the Constitution Aloft’

He elaborated, 'The Constitution is not just a collection of articles for us; its spirit is equally sacred. In every situation, it has guided us. When we decided to commemorate November 26 as Constitution Day, I was surprised at the opposition from those who now zealously wave its copies, given we already celebrate January 26. Observing Constitution Day helps us reflect on the contributions of our honorable forebearers in its creation and the intentional omission of certain elements, sparking discussions in schools and colleges.'
