The Bombay High Court directs Patanjali Ayurved Limited to deposit a sum of 50 lakh rupees for contempt of a 2023 court order, effectively halting the sale of Kapoor products following a trademark infringement case filed by Mangalam Organics Limited. Despite an unconditional apology and a pledge of adherence to the orders from Patanjali, the mandated deposit stands.

Justice R.I. Chagla's bench acknowledged Patanjali's breach of injunction against the sale of Kapoor products, originally enacted by a prior court order, in a sworn affidavit presented in June. Justice Chagla’s order stated, 'The court cannot tolerate the incessant violation of the injunction order dated 30th August 2023 by respondent number 1 (Patanjali).' In August 2023, the High Court had curbed Patanjali from promoting and selling Kapoor products alongside an ongoing lawsuit filed by Mangalam Organics, alleging copyright infringement of their Kapoor product line.

Mangalam subsequently filed an application, alleging that Patanjali persisted in violating the interim order by continuing to sell Kapoor products. Patanjali's director, Rajneesh Mishra, sought unconditional forgiveness and vowed compliance with the High Court's orders. Mishra's affidavit revealed that the total supply of Kapoor products amounted to 49,57,861 rupees post-injunction. However, Mangalam Organics' lawyer, Hiren Kamod, contested this figure.
