Samajwadi Party MP RK Chaudhary has written to the Speaker and the Protem Speaker questioning the placement of the traditional scepter within Parliament and has requested its removal. He first encountered the scepter during his swearing-in as an MP, which prompted his subsequent letter to the Speaker, suggesting that the scepter is a symbol of monarchies.
As the MP from Mohanlalganj for the Samajwadi Party, Chaudhary argued that instead of the scepter, a grand copy of the Indian Constitution should be installed in Parliament. After taking his oath, he raised objections in a letter to Protem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab, expressing his surprise at the presence of the scepter beside the Speaker's chair.

Chaudhary emphasized, "Today, I swore an oath to this august house to bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India established by law, but I was taken aback to see the scepter to the right of the dais. Sir, our Constitution is a sacred document of India's democracy, while the scepter is emblematic of a monarchy. Our Parliament is a temple of democracy, not a palace of kings or royalty."
Chaudhary persisted, "I would urge that the scepter in the Parliament building be replaced with a monumental copy of the Indian Constitution." It is noteworthy that after the construction of the new Parliament building, the scepter was installed at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi next to the Speaker's chair. The scepter was brought from a temple in Tamil Nadu and was ceremoniously erected. Now, the scepter's place has been called into question by the Samajwadi Party MP.
