Facing its worst economic crisis, Pakistan sees a new government and Asif Ali Zardari as the 14th president. In light of the country's dire financial straits, on Tuesday, the newly elected president made a significant announcement: he will forgo any salary (President Forgo Salary) during his term. Following his lead, the nation's new Interior Minister has stepped up to make a similar sacrifice.
Decision Made Amidst Challenging National Conditions
According to PTI, Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari announced on Tuesday that he won't take any salary during his tenure. This step was taken in view of the ongoing economic crisis (Pakistan Financial Crisis) and the inflation that has left the people of Pakistan financially strained. 68-year-old President Zardari informed through the PPP's official account that this decision was made to aid the country in these challenging circumstances and wouldn't burden the nation's revenue.
Among Pakistan's Wealthiest Leaders
An announcement by Asif Ali Zardari's office has highlighted that he is among the richest leaders in Pakistan, with a net worth of around 1.8 billion dollars. But President Zardari didn't stop at forgoing his salary. Upon his swearing-in, he announced that during his second term he will bestow the status of 'First Lady' to his daughter Asifa Zardari. This marks a historical first, where a president's daughter is given the stature of First Lady.
Interior Minister Follows President's Example
As per the salary defined by the Parliament for the President of Pakistan (Pakistan President Salary), it amounts to 846,550 rupees per month, along with other allowances. Following President Zardari's announcement, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi (Mohasin Naqvi), citing the country's economic challenges, also decided to forgo his salary. Minister Naqvi also shared on the XP platform, 'We are committed to serving the country in every possible way at this challenging time.'
