In the city of Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, authorities have registered a case against two individuals accused of hurting religious feelings. They allegedly posted offensive content on social media concerning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
Posts That Hurt Religious Sentiments
City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Abhishek Tiwari reported that since Tuesday afternoon, when the Pahalgam attack occurred, there has been close monitoring of social media. During this observation, two posts were identified by the Kotwali Police Station Chief that could disrupt social harmony and hurt religious sentiments.
Accusation of Attempting to Disturb Communal Peace
The individuals have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attempting to incite religious feelings and disturb communal peace. They belong to a particular community, and efforts are being made to take them into custody soon for questioning as the investigation continues.
This incident follows the harrowing attack in which terrorists opened fire in the open fields of Pahalgam town in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. The attack resulted in 26 casualties, mostly tourists from other states. It is being reported as the largest terror attack in the valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019.
The police have also urged the public to exercise caution while posting on sensitive topics on social media and to avoid spreading rumors.
The captivating Baisaran Valley is a well-known tourist destination, just a few kilometers from Pahalgam. To reach it, tourists can either take a horseback ride or hike. Each year, the valley attracts a large number of tourists. The shooting incident occurred right as the tourism season began, adding to the heightened activity in the region.
