Congress MP Shashi Tharoor defended India's recent anti-terror operation named 'Operation Sindoor', stating that the choice of name holds both symbolic and emotional significance. Speaking to journalists and foreign policy observers, Tharoor remarked, "I believe 'Operation Sindoor' is undeniably a fantastic name."
During his address at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., Tharoor explained, "Sindoor is a vermillion mark on the foreheads of married women in Hindu tradition, symbolizing marital sanctity. These brutal terrorists erased that mark from the foreheads of 26 Indian women. Therefore, we sought to avenge the erasure of Sindoor."
'What was done with Sindoor...'
Tharoor did not shy away from using strong language. He stated, "In Hindi, there's a phrase, 'blood for blood', here it was 'blood for Sindoor', in response to the desecration of Sindoor."
An all-party delegation, comprising MPs from all political parties, is currently visiting major global capitals to garner support and raise awareness about India's stance on terrorism.
'Pakistan admitted...'
Tharoor also addressed questions about the operation's impact, stating damages are classified but that India's military dealt a significant blow to Pakistan's aerial capabilities. He noted, "India not only effectively targeted 11 Pakistani airbases, but Pakistan has publicly acknowledged the magnitude and effectiveness of the Indian strikes, which extended from Hyderabad in the south to Peshawar in the northwest."
He mentioned commercially available satellite images displaying pothole-filled runways and destroyed operational command centers, highlighting that India's response was measured and strong.
India launched 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, sponsored by Pakistan, which claimed 26 lives.
