On the fourth day of the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Purnia's independent MP Pappu Yadav raised the issue of Purnia Airport. Pappu Yadav mentioned that from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Home Minister Amit Shah, they have all talked about opening Purnia and Bhagalpur airports. However, 15 acres of land is yet to be acquired by the Bihar government for Purnia airport. He expressed that he had already met with officials to urge the commencement of Purnia Airport's construction.
Independent MP Pappu Yadav inquired if there was a decision to lay the foundation and commence construction work to get the airport operational within two years. As Pappu Yadav was posing his question, Speaker Om Birla humorously asked him to sit down, saying, 'Pappu Yadav Ji, please sit down or people will say Bihar is receiving too much.'
Minister of Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu responded on behalf of the government. He acknowledged meeting with the honorable MP and informed that the issue of land acquisition is about to be resolved, and work would commence soon.
