A horrifying incident has shaken the heart of Ratanpur village in the Delang police station area of Puri district, Odisha. The lifeless body of an 11-year-old boy named Ashirbad Sahu, missing since April 15, was found on Monday in the septic tank at his uncle's house. The body was in a severely mutilated state, and shockingly, the boy's private parts were also severed. This gruesome discovery has spread fear among the local community.
Ashirbad, a sixth-grade student, had returned home from tuition with his 8-year-old sister on the evening of April 15. He reached home around 6 PM, but by 6:15 PM, when his mother tried to find him, the boy had disappeared. His family searched tirelessly, yet he was nowhere to be found. Ultimately, they filed a missing person report at the Delang police station.

Despite their efforts, the police failed to locate the boy for five days. Angered, the family and villagers staged a protest on April 20 in front of the Delang police outpost. The demonstration turned intense as protesters blocked the road, burned tires, and chanted slogans against the police, accusing them of lax action.
Initial investigations pointed suspicion at the boy’s uncle, Somnath Sahu. Although he was apprehended, lack of solid evidence prompted his release. However, the police kept a close eye on him. In a dramatic turn, on Sunday night, Somnath was re-arrested at a roadside eatery in the Tangi Chandpur area.

During police interrogation, Somnath confessed to the crime. Subsequently, Ashirbad's body was recovered from the septic tank at the suspect's residence. The heinous state of the child's body left both the police and villagers in shock, with dismembered private parts and multiple injuries. While the motive remains unclear, the police suspect a long-standing grudge or a deranged mindset behind the murder. Intensive questioning of the suspect continues, and the police are expected to reveal further details concerning this tragic incident soon.
