Amid ongoing violence in Manipur, the National People's Party (NPP) led by Conrad Sangma has decided to revoke its support from the BJP-led government. Addressing a letter to BJP National President JP Nadda, they emphasized that Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's administration has failed to handle the prevailing issues in the state. Thus, the party is withdrawing its support immediately.
The NPP has expressed its deep concern regarding law and order in a letter to JP Nadda. It stated, 'In recent days, the situation in the state has deteriorated significantly, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives. People are enduring tremendous suffering.'
He further asserted, 'We firmly believe that the Manipur government under CM Biren Singh has been utterly incapable of resolving the crisis and restoring normalcy. Considering the current scenario, the National People's Party has decided to retract its support from the Biren Singh-led government in Manipur immediately.'
According to sources, amid the rising tensions in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting in Delhi on Sunday with senior officials to review the security situation in the state. Another significant meeting regarding this issue is scheduled for Monday.
Moreover, Amit Shah canceled his political engagements in Maharashtra and arrived in Delhi on Sunday. The security situation in Manipur has been alarming for the past few days.
Criticism from the Congress President Towards the Center
Earlier, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the central government, stating, 'Under your double-engine government, Manipur is neither unified nor safe.' Since May 2023, Manipur has been engulfed in unimaginable pain, division, and violence, damaging the future of its people. We assert responsibly that it seems the BJP deliberately wants to inflame Manipur with its divisive politics.
Kharge noted that from November 7 to date, 17 people have lost their lives in Manipur. The violence is spreading across various regions, including northeastern states.
Violence in Manipur on Saturday
It's essential to note that violence erupted again last Saturday in Manipur when an enraged mob attacked and vandalized the homes of several legislators. The mob was advancing towards CM Biren Singh's residence, but the police intervened to control the situation. Subsequently, on Sunday, the police detained over 20 individuals involved in the violence, imposing a curfew in Imphal until further notice.
