In Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, a grand feast was held with music and revelry to honor a monkey's passing. People from up to 35 kilometers away gathered in the village of Khilchipur to partake in this unique memorial, with around 5,000 guests in attendance. Deeply saddened by the monkey’s death, the villagers came together, pooling resources to organize this extraordinary event, extending invitations to nearby villages and relatives.
The funeral procession of the monkey was conducted with DJ music, reminiscent of traditional rituals. On the eleventh day, Biram Singh Sondhia, the village chief, accompanied by village elders, journeyed to Ujjain to respectfully immerse the monkey’s remains in the sacred Shipra River. In a poignant gesture, the chief even shaved his beard, treating the monkey as a beloved family member, seeing him as an embodiment of Lord Hanuman.
The community financed the feast through collected contributions and invited neighboring residents over an expanse of some 35 kilometers to join the ceremonial gathering held in an open ground. Savory delicacies like Nukti, Sev, Puri, and Kadhi were served to more than five thousand people, with devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Hanuman playing in the background.
