A 45-member team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived in the Kashmir Valley to investigate the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The investigation is led by senior officers including Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General, and Superintendents of Police, along with seven Deputy Superintendents. Their efforts span Pahalgam, Baseran, and Srinagar, with central and state agencies lending their support.
During the probe, it was uncovered that two terrorists launched an assault from behind trees. Their tactic involved anticipating crowd movement towards entry and exit points, allowing them to tragically end seven lives in a moment's time.
From the Baseran Valley site, investigators recovered 40 cartridges. Eyewitness statements and video footage from the scene are undergoing thorough analysis for assailant identification.
Muzammil to Remain Detained
Meanwhile, a viral video from Pune incorrectly suggested terrorist sightings in Betaab Valley. The investigation revealed the individuals in the footage were local residents with no attack involvement. Muzammil remains in custody; although direct ties to the attack are unproven, interrogation is ongoing.
Team Interrogates Over 45 Individuals
The NIA team is questioning more than 45 personnel, including Baseran Valley shopkeepers and local guides. Senior NIA officials allege terrorists are using 'mobile paid applications' for encrypted communication with handlers in Pakistan. Reports suggest ISI is engaging Kashmiri terrorists as their operatives, with possible local support linked to Adil Thokar. He was reportedly seen in South Kashmir six months ago but subsequently returned to Pakistan.
Military Given Free Reign for Action
In a significant meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chiefs of all three armed forces were granted unrestricted authority for action against terrorism. This 90-minute strategic session included Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, CDS Anil Chauhan, and military chiefs. The Prime Minister endorsed decisive counter-terror initiatives during this high-level discussion.
