‘I did nothing wrong, won’t apologize,’ Zelensky maintains after heated Trump debate

Commenting on the recent growing closeness between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky said, 'I want him (Trump) to stay in the middle. I also want him to be on our side.' When asked if his relationship with Trump could improve after Friday's heated debate, Zelensky replied, 'Yes, absolutely.'

During a significant confrontation in a meeting on Friday between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, Zelensky refused to apologize to Trump. In an interview with Fox News, Zelensky described the encounter as 'not good' for both parties.

However, Zelensky did express that if the United States were to withdraw its support, defending Ukraine against Russia would become 'challenging' for them. He regretted that the clash with the American President was broadcasted publicly and stated, 'I wish to maintain politeness and decorum.'

'I respect the President but won’t apologize'

When asked if he would apologize to President Trump, Zelensky replied, 'No, I respect the President. I also respect the American people. I don’t believe we did anything wrong.'

Addressing the burgeoning ties between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky stated, 'I want him (Trump) to stay neutral. I also want him to be on our side.' When questioned if his relationship with Trump could mend after the Friday debate, Zelensky answered, 'Yes, absolutely.'

Fiery Debate between Trump and Zelensky

The intense on-camera exchange between Trump and Zelensky has left the world in shock. Matters escalated to the point where Zelensky was asked to leave the White House. Trump ended the conversation abruptly. The discussion was meant to be about a mineral deal, but things went astray due to a security deal question.

Trump seeks return on investment

President Trump is seeking compensation for the economic and military aid provided to Ukraine by the previous Biden administration. He insists America should receive a return on this investment. Trump has been heard saying America should receive $500 billion in return but was negotiating for $350 billion. He stipulated that Ukraine would receive nothing in return, certainly not security guarantees.

Even without security guarantees, President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in America on Friday to sign the deal, meeting Trump at the White House. Trump personally welcomed him at the door. Despite the cordial start, a heated debate erupted during a press conference with both leaders and their cabinets.
