A significant accident has emerged near the Drass area in Ladakh. Here, an SUV lost control near Gumri and plummeted directly into the river. Tragically, two people lost their lives on the spot, while three others suffered severe injuries. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived promptly, secured the bodies, and transported the injured for medical treatment. This incident is currently under investigation.
According to eyewitnesses, the mishap occurred as the SUV driver was negotiating a curve on the road. Suddenly, the car became uncontrollable and fell into a deep gorge, eventually slipping into the river. When locals witnessed the event unfold, they promptly alerted the police.
Meanwhile, other locals arrived on the scene, including a team from the army and police, to assess the situation and immediately begin rescue operations. Extracting the injured individuals from the submerged vehicle posed a challenging task for the soldiers and officers.

The three critically injured individuals have been admitted to a local hospital, where their treatment is ongoing. The police have yet to provide detailed information on the identity of the deceased and the condition of the injured. Since the accident, the area is steeped in mourning. Drass and the surrounding region are known for their high-altitude, mountainous terrain with perilous roads. Often, rains, snowfall, and slippery conditions pose serious accident risks.
Local police have registered the incident and started an investigation. Officials state that the true cause behind the loss of control—be it brake failure, speeding, or poor road conditions—is under scrutiny.
