In Jharkhand, political turmoil continues unabated, complemented by an ongoing cycle of charges and countercharges. Amidst this scenario, Assam's Chief Minister and Jharkhand BJP co-in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma has leveled a serious allegation against Hemant Soren. He accused the Jharkhand Chief Minister of spying on Champai Soren. Himanta claimed that Champai Soren had been traced right from Kolkata. Even during his stay in a Delhi hotel, surveillance activities were suspected. The Assam CM surmised that Champai Soren’s phone might have also been traced and monitored.

What the Assam CM Said:

Himanta stated that since Champai Soren adopted a rebellious stance, Hemant Soren has targeted him. However, it must be remembered that until Champai resigns, he retains his status as a minister in the Jharkhand government and a former Chief Minister. Himanta elucidated that a week ago, Champai visited Delhi and stayed there for three days. He returned on August 26th to Delhi, staying again at the Taj Hotel. Reports surfaced that Jharkhand’s Special Branch Police were trailing him during both visits. Himanta alleged that two officers from the Special Branch were spying on Champai Soren, hinting that his phone might have been tapped.

'I've Never Seen Such a Case.'

Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that a woman was also seen on the same floor where Champai Soren was staying during this period. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation — a government monitoring its own minister. Such extensive surveillance is unprecedented, and a former Chief Minister has been under watch for the past 5 months.

Who Were the Two Police Officers?

According to sources, the police officers Himanta referred to are both Sub Inspectors in the Special Branch's Political Wing Department. Their role is to gather information on political figures. The Delhi Police had detained them, but they were released after questioning.
