Poonam, accompanied by two friends, was heading to Prayagraj for a holy dip, only to have her life abruptly cut short by the sudden pandemonium at the station. This incident has left her family devastated as they now seek justice and support from the government.
According to family members, Poonam and her friends did not have reserved seats on the train. They arrived at New Delhi Railway Station at night to catch a train to Prayagraj. Their initial train departed at 8:00 PM, leaving them to try for the 9:00 PM train. During this time, Poonam contacted her son to share that the station was overly crowded, and she was contemplating returning home.

Family Wandered Throughout the Night

Ultimately, they learned the tragic news that Poonam had perished in the stampede.

Poonam’s husband Virendra shared that their son Akshit was searching for his mother throughout the night, but no one could provide them with any concrete information. The relatives express that timely communication from the authorities might have alleviated some of their distress. The family is now appealing to the government for assistance and calling for an impartial investigation into the incident.
