Despite a stampede, the New Delhi Railway Station remains out of control. On Saturday night, chaos ensued, and massive crowds continued to fill the station on Sunday. The scenes at the Bihar-bound Sampark Kranti train were noticeably hectic, with doors inaccessible, compelling passengers to leap through emergency windows.

In the photos, it's clearly visible how the platform swelled as soon as the train arrived. Reports indicate an overwhelming number of unreserved and waiting list ticket holders. During this time, people jostled, and passengers were seen tossing luggage through sleeper coach emergency windows and scrambling to board.

18 Lives Lost

On Saturday night, a tragic stampede at the New Delhi station claimed 18 lives. An eyewitness, a waiter from India Railway, described how confusion spiraled into a frantic swarm. He recounted the events articulately, explaining how an announcement for a train from Prayagraj on platform 16 triggered panic and chaos leading to the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the government has announced compensation for the victims. As per the announcement, next of kin to the deceased will receive 1 million, seriously injured individuals 250,000, and those with minor injuries 100,000.

High-level investigations into the stampede at Delhi Railway Station have been ordered. Northern Railway's CPRO Himanshu Shekhar also commented on the incident. He stated that at the time of the incident, the Magadh Express to Patna was stationed at platform 14, and Sampark Kranti to Jammu was at platform 15, amidst crowded conditions that resulted in unfortunate slips and the ensuing chaos. An extensive inquiry is currently underway by a high-level committee.
