NEET UG Exam 2024:
The NEET UG 2024 exam has escalated to the Supreme Court. A group of candidates has petitioned for a re-examination following allegations of misconduct on May 5, the day the exam was held. The petitioners have come across multiple incidents of a paper leak. The candidates argue that the alleged paper leak violates the right to equality as stated in Article 14 of the Constitution, giving some candidates an unfair advantage over those who chose to take the exam fairly.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), faced with these accusations, has presented its defense, maintaining its integrity. Let's explore NTA's response to these allegations.
The Statement on Bonus Points
NTA clarified the high cutoffs and the awarding of compensatory marks for the NEET exam by stating that several petitions were filed in the High Court. The courts of Punjab & Haryana, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh expressed concerns regarding 'loss of time' during the examination. After careful consideration of the complaints submitted to the NTA, an expert committee of esteemed education and examination authorities was formed to assess such grievances and present recommendations.

Why Are All the Toppers from the Same Exam Center?
NTA sources claim there is a misunderstanding regarding the NEET-UG 2024 toppers who scored 720/720 and are from the same center. They clarified that although these candidates received compensatory marks, they were already high scorers before the adjustment through normalization. Furthermore, the bonus marks allotted to them were not artificially inflated; they were granted based on a statistical formula to account for time lost during the exam.
NTA assures that any score adjustments follow a standard formula, applied after thorough verification of the facts through CCTV analytics and ground staff reports. Therefore, there is no discrepancy in the results published by NTA on June 4, 2024.

Results Released Earlier Than Scheduled?
NTA explains that releasing the NEET UG results on June 4, 2024, instead of June 14 was a move to facilitate the candidates. According to NTA protocols, the results should be declared as soon as possible after completing necessary verifications following the answer-key challenge period, which is typically 3 to 7 days. The dates mentioned in the information bulletin are tentative; NTA strives to announce results when feasible. With the NEET (UG) 2024 results ready by June 4th, there was no reason to delay the announcement.
Why Was the Paper Made Easier This Year?
In response to the allegation that this year's paper was easier compared to previous years, NTA mentioned that registrations increased from 20 million to 24 million compared to last year. Additionally, 15% of the comprehensive syllabus was reduced this year. Some students saw revisions in their Physics scores due to the answer-key updates. NTA DG Subodh Kumar, in his statement to India Today Aaj Tak, said, "We are entirely transparent in our result publication and exam conducting process. We have nothing to hide."
