Aligarh Constable Hemlata Death Case:
The mysterious demise of a 28-year-old woman constable in Aligarh has sent shockwaves through the community. Initially, it was reported that she had taken her own life by hanging herself, but her family has voiced serious doubts over this claim, alleging foul play. The police confirmed the incident on Monday.
According to Aligarh police, the deceased was identified as Constable Hemlata. She was stationed at the Rorawar Police Station and resided in a rented apartment in the Bannadevi area. Tragically, she was found dead in her room over the weekend. Both the police and her family are presenting differing accounts of the events leading to her death.
‘Strangled and Then Hung,’ Alleges Family
As per PTI, Hemlata's father, Karamveer Singh, who is a farmer from Baiman village near Agra, has made a shocking claim post his daughter's cremation. He insists that Hemlata, being of sound mind and cheerful disposition, would not have taken such a drastic step. He believes that she was strangled and later hanged to make it appear as a suicide, although the police have yet to receive any written complaint from the family.
Death in the Rented Apartment
Hemlata's lifeless body was found hanging in the very room she rented. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the room locked from the inside. DIG Prabhakar Chaudhary provided this information to the media, stating that initial observations suggest a suicide, but queries from the family complicate the situation further. Investigative teams have been tasked with submitting detailed reports on several facets of the scene and room condition.
WhatsApp Status: The First Clue to Death
News of Hemlata's death reached the police through her friend, who noticed a distressing WhatsApp status from her hinting at her intent to commit suicide. Alarmed by this, the friend promptly alerted the authorities. Police rushed to the site, forced their way into the locked room and discovered her body hanging. This status is a pivotal piece of evidence in the eyes of the police supporting their suicide theory, but Hemlata's father remains skeptical.
Postmortem Report Adds to the Confusion
Station House Officer S.P. Singh of Bannadevi revealed that the postmortem report did not provide any definitive conclusions. Neither murder nor suicide could be confirmed, further entangling the case. While the family suggests a possibility of murder, police underscore the room's condition and the status message as leaning towards suicide. A detailed report from the medical team has been requested for further insights.
Discrepancy Between Family and Police Claims
DIG Prabhakar Chaudhary stated that the circumstances surrounding the locked room, Hemlata's WhatsApp status, and the overall scene all point towards suicide as the cause of death, a perspective guiding the current investigation. Conversely, Hemlata's father maintains that his daughter, being mentally robust, would not have opted for such a drastic measure and has expressed intentions to file a written report with the police soon. In light of the postmortem's ambiguous findings, the investigation's direction remains uncertain.
