On the night of Diwali, a dispute erupted between two communities in Muzaffarpur's Mithanpura area over the celebration of Kali Puja. In the Rambagh locality, some individuals opposed the public worship, leading to a physical altercation between the groups.
Upon receiving information about the incident, ASP Town Bhanu Pratap arrived promptly with police reinforcements. To disperse the crowd, the police resorted to mild force. A brief confrontation occurred between the police and the agitated crowd, but eventually, order was restored.
Clash over Kali Puja between Two Communities
In response to the tension, officials have deployed magistrates and police forces in the area, ensuring their presence for the coming days. District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen stated that certain individuals attempted to install a new statue at night, contrary to a prior panchayat decision prohibiting new constructions on that site.
District Magistrate Subrat Sen explained that late Thursday, an attempt was made to erect a statue in the area. A previous panchayat resolution had already marked that site as unsuitable for new developments. Police deployment is securing the area for the foreseeable future.
Police Successfully Mediated Peace between Parties
Additionally, DM Subrat Sen mentioned that a meeting with peace committee members has resolved the matter amicably. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation. ASP Town Bhanu Pratap assured that the ongoing investigation would hold wrongdoers accountable with strict actions.
SP Bhanu Pratap added that around midnight, tensions peaked at a crossroads, fueled by misleading information being spread. Both parties have been advised, and comprehensive investigations are underway. Perpetrators will face severe consequences.
