Authorities in the Worli district of Mumbai have taken Mihir Shah’s father, Rajesh Shah, and driver, Rajrshi Bidawat, into custody following the tragic hit and run incident. Mihir's girlfriend is currently being questioned by the police. Mihir has been identified as the prime suspect in the case, with further investigation revealing that the car involved was uninsured at the time of the accident.
Let it be known that around 5 AM on Sunday, the peaceful morning in Mumbai's Worli was shattered by a heartbreaking accident. Pradeep Nakhwa and his wife Kaveri, residents of Koliwada in Worli, were returning from Sasoon Dock after a morning's work when a BMW car, emerging from behind, violently struck them. The collision left the couple severely injured, and despite medical efforts, Kaveri succumbed to her injuries, while Pradeep battles for his life with significant wounds.
Mihir Shah was driving the car
Police reports assert that Mihir Shah was indeed behind the wheel. Confirming that another individual, allegedly Shah’s driver, was seated next to him, and after the incident, Shah fled the scene. Rajesh Shah, Mihir's father, is known to be an official of the Shiv Sena party under the leadership of Eknath Shinde in Palghar district.
There were two occupants in the car at the time of the accident: DCP
DCP Zone 3, Krishnakant Upadhyay, states that an investigation is underway to ascertain who was driving the car. For now, Rajrshi and Rajesh Shah are in police custody. The department is also investigating whether the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol. Post-accident, it's reported that the suspect abandoned the car in Kala Nagar in an unattended state. Charges under the BNS and Motor Vehicles Acts have been added to the case.
Chief Minister Shinde affirms equality before the law
Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized that the law is equal for all. Assuring that legal procedures will be followed in the BMW hit and run case, he stated that the government does not differentiate in its approach to such incidents and that no separate rules apply. Shinde reiterated that the police will not shield anyone and called the Mumbai accident unfortunate, demanding stern action from the police.
The Uddhav faction criticized the government
A spokesperson of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Anand Dubey, expressed that the law and order situation in Mumbai has deteriorated, resulting in criminals losing fear of the administration and the government. Dubey alleged that authorities would provide comforts like pizza and burgers to apprehended criminals and might even manipulate their blood sample reports. He also insisted on established guidelines regarding driving, concluding that while the suspect remains at large, the absence of fear of the law among criminals is evident.
