Mumbai is reeling under a relentless downpour. Last night, torrential rain hit the entire city, causing waterlogging in several areas. Streets are submerged in several feet of water. The rains have brought Mumbai's usually bustling life to a standstill just as people were heading home after work. The heavy rains have left many people stranded. The weather department has issued a red alert for today (September 26). However, the situation seems to have normalized this morning.
Schools and colleges will remain closed on Thursday. The Municipal Corporation has urged people to stay indoors. Continuous rain in Mumbai has led to water accumulation on railway tracks at several locations, causing heavy crowds at Ghatkopar railway station. Streets, too, were swamped with water, causing intermittent traffic jams.
Rainfall in Mumbai was so intense that water levels rose above knee height. Local train services were disrupted due to waterlogged tracks. Even BEST buses and auto rickshaws were sparsely running. Meanwhile, the weather department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall. The BMC has advised people to leave their homes only if absolutely necessary. Poor weather conditions have also impacted air travel today.
Heavy Rain in Pune Too
Besides Mumbai, Pune has also witnessed heavy rainfall. However, schools and colleges there remain open. Landslides on the Mumbra bypass due to heavy rain have disrupted traffic. Pune is under a red alert for 24 hours of rainfall. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Raigad and Ratnagiri, according to the weather department.
