Mumbai, perched by the sea, now resembles a vast ocean itself. After two days of constant rain, the city's streets are drowned with water. From luxurious neighborhoods to less privileged areas, everything is submerged in water, causing immense disruption. People are stuck indoors as schools declare holidays, and the typical hustle of going to offices seems subdued. Caution is the watchword for all.

Severe Rainstorm Alert with High Winds

A new alert by the weather department has raised alarms. A red alert is in place for Pune district, and heavy rains are anticipated in the next three hours for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and the Western Ghats of Pune. Winds may blow at 40-50 km/h, possibly escalating to 60 km/h.

Mumbai, already challenged by incessant downpours, braces for more rainfall and disruptions. This isn't a one-off scenario but the city's perennial tale. Each year, Mumbai faces similar ordeals, despite being overseen by the BMC, India's wealthiest municipal corporation.

Mumbai Submerged

Mumbai seems to have grown accustomed to flooding. From end to end, the city is underwater—roads submerged, subways flooded, and housing societies waterlogged. Water grips the railway lines, and even luxury vehicles find themselves partially submerged. The Andheri subway, a monsoon landmark almost as iconic as the Gateway of India, is once again brimming with water.

This scenario is a result of just two days of rain in Mumbai, a city supposedly safeguarded by Asia’s largest civic agency—the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC). With a budget surpassing several smaller states, BMC still struggles to manage this recurring crisis.
