The Kanwar Yatra is set to commence from 22nd July. In anticipation, vendors in districts of Uttar Pradesh along the Kanwar Yatra route have been advised to display their name boards. Many shopkeepers in Muzaffarnagar have already complied. Amidst this backdrop, a statement from BJP's senior leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has emerged.
Naqvi posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), lamenting, 'Some eager officials' orders can inadvertently promote discriminatory untouchability. While faith must be respected, it should never protect divisiveness. Do not inquire of one's birth; caste and creed should not define us. As Raidas said, we are all children of God, and no caste is inferior or superior.'
Naqvi shares his own picture
Following his social media post, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi shared another update. Accompanying the post was his own picture at the Kanwar Yatra. He challenged the trolls, 'Oh, trollish onlookers, do not bestow upon me, at least, the certificate of devotion and respect for the Kanwar Yatra. I have always believed that no faith should be hostage to intolerance or segregation.'
What did SP leader ST Hasan say?
In response, SP's senior leader ST Hasan remarked, 'Unfortunately, politics in our country is being drawn upon communal lines. Being Muslim should not prevent anyone from partaking in the society. Are we destined to create such division within our country? The same was done by the Nazis in Germany. I urge the administration to abolish such decrees immediately. My fear is that if communal elements infiltrate and realize the vendor is Muslim, they might loot or lynch their stall.'
240-kilometer route in Muzaffarnagar
It's crucial to note that the Kanwar Yatra traverses a crucial 240-kilometer route within Muzaffarnagar. That's why this district is significant. Following police instructions, shops have posted their names along with their goods, like 'Arif Mango Seller' and 'Nisar Fruit Vendor.'
Step taken to avoid confusion
An officer from the Western Uttar Pradesh police noted preparations for the Kanwar Yatra have begun. Food vendors and shopkeepers have been instructed to clearly display the name of the owner or the worker. This is essential to prevent confusion and avoid accusations, which might otherwise escalate to law and order challenges. Hence, such directives have been issued and are being followed voluntarily by all.
