Superstitions and irrational beliefs have led to tragic tales. Falling prey to such beliefs, individuals have destroyed their own homes and families. In the UK, Christina Robinson from Durham suffered a similar fate, as she was found guilty by Newcastle Crown Court of murdering her own son.
Robinson is accused of subjecting her three-year-old son to harrowing tortures — throwing him into boiling water and beating him with sticks. The question of why she committed such a heinous crime points to a shockingly bizarre reason.
During the trial, Robinson blamed the Bible, claiming it instructed her to act this way with her son. The court heard how Robinson often lost her temper, leading to fatal consequences for her son Dwelaniyah in November 2022.
Before the incident, she deliberately submerged her son in scalding hot water with the intent to torture him, resulting in severe burns and unbearable pain for the boy.
Additionally troubling was Robinson’s decision to treat her severely injured son at home, rather than seeking medical help, for fear of being questioned by healthcare workers.
A member of the Black Hebrew Israelite faith, Christina Robinson admitted to beating her young son with a bamboo stick. She claimed fidelity to biblical scripture which suggested the use of a rod for child correction was acceptable. She justified her use of the stick to Newcastle Crown Court saying her son was playing with his food.
The jury found Robinson responsible for fatal brain injury to her son on November 5, 2022. The post-mortem examination revealed the boy had been subjected to repeated assaults and had multiple non-accidental injuries. Sentencing for Christina Robinson is set for May 24, 2024, where the court will decide the consequences of her ghastly actions.
