In response to the horrific terrorist attack in Moscow, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has delivered a stern reaction. He emphasized that the perpetrators of the terrorist attack at Moscow's concert venue should be dealt with ruthlessly, without any mercy shown.
According to the Russian news agency RT, Dmitry Medvedev stated, "Terrorists only understand the language of terror in response. If force is not met with force, if terrorists are not brought to death, and if action is not taken against the families of the terrorists, then there is no advantage in investigation or trial. This is the world's method to deal with terror."
So far, over 60 people have died in this terrorist attack at Moscow's famous concert hall, Crocus City. The responsibility for the attack has been allegedly claimed by ISIS. Reports indicate that on Friday, five gunmen from ISIS initiated shooting at a concert hall near the city of Moscow, resulting in over 60 fatalities and nearly 150 people grievously injured.
Former Russian President Issues Strong Reaction
Former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, expressed condolences to the families of the victims in a Telegram post on Friday evening. He said terrorists only understand the language of terror. If these terrorists are from Ukraine, we can't deal with them and their ideology in a different way. Those who committed this atrocity must be identified as terrorists and mercilessly executed.
Medvedev's statement aligns with the sentiments of current Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement from 1999. At the time serving as Prime Minister and on the verge of launching counter-terrorism operations in the North Caucasus, Putin had said, "We are seeking terrorists everywhere. If we find terrorists in the toilet, we will take them out in the outhouse."
Commenting on this statement in 2011, Putin said that the word choice might offend, but the sentiment behind it was sincere and just.
Islamic State Claims Responsibility for the Attack
The Islamic State allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack through its purported Telegram channel, stating that their operatives completed the attack and returned to their base.
However, some local media suggest that the people with whom the terrorist organization issued the claim could be a hoax. No local agency has yet verified this claim. The concert hall in Moscow is said to be quite renowned and had nearly 6200 people present the previous day.
