Parliament's monsoon session is set to commence on Monday. The opposition is preparing to challenge the government on various issues, notably President Trump's claim of a ceasefire with Pakistan and the voter list revision in Bihar.
The government has stated its readiness to discuss all crucial issues, including Operation Sindoor. However, the opposition's focus will remain on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in 26 casualties and led to accusing the government of negligence.
Government to Present 17 Bills
In this session, concluding on August 21, the government aims to present 17 bills. Concurrently, Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, continues to press for a bill to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, despite bleak prospects for government support.
Congress MPs Issue Notices
Congress MP Randeep Surjewala has issued a notice to suspend Zero Hour for discussions on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. Meanwhile, MP Manickam Tagore has raised separate notices concerning the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, and Trump's controversial statement.
Prime Minister's Statement and Opposition Demands
The session will open with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the media about the government's agenda and priorities. This will be the first session post-Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, topics likely to dominate proceedings.
Prior to the session, an all-party meeting saw the opposition demanding answers from PM Modi on Trump's claims, alleged mishandling of the Pahalgam attack, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.
Air India Crash and Aviation Safety
The opposition plans to raise another significant issue - the Air India crash in Ahmedabad resulting in 260 fatalities. Reports from the US attribute the crash to pilot error, prompting demands for a thorough government response. However, sources suggest the Prime Minister is unlikely to directly respond to these controversial topics.
Government Strategy and Potential Consensus
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has appealed for opposition cooperation, confirming the government's readiness to discuss Operation Sindoor and its intent to transparently address all issues. However, he did not provide a direct response to Trump's claims. The government will focus on highlighting achievements during the Pakistan standoff and subsequent all-party foreign visits. The monsoon session will feature a total of 21 meetings over a span of 32 days.
