From Anti-Doping Reforms to Tax Laws: Modi Government Eyes 8 New Bills This Monsoon

The upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin on July 21 and run until August 12. During this session, the government aims to introduce eight new bills addressing laws related to sports, minerals, education, and taxes.

Anticipated New Bills in the Monsoon Session

According to sources, the government is gearing up to introduce several new legislative proposals during this session.

1. National Sports Governance Bill

This bill seeks to enhance accountability and transparency within sports organizations. It aims to protect athletes’ rights and establish clear rules for resolving sports-related disputes.

2. National Anti-Doping Amendment Bill

This legislation aims to strengthen anti-doping measures, ensuring strict adherence to international standards and fair investigations of athletes.

3. Geohistoric Sites and Georelics Preservation and Maintenance Bill

This proposal focuses on the conservation and maintenance of India's geological heritage and significant rock formations.

4. IIM Amendment Bill

This amendment seeks to bring structural and operational changes to Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to enhance education quality and transparency.

5. Manipur GST Amendment Bill

This bill aims to introduce necessary technical or structural changes to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws in the state of Manipur.

6. Taxation Amendment Bill

Through this bill, the government intends to simplify and make income tax and other tax laws more transparent, benefiting taxpayers.

7. Public Trust Amendment Bill

This bill seeks to shift minor offenses or procedural violations from the criminal category to administrative penalties, thereby boosting trust between the government and its citizens and traders.

8. Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill

This legislation includes measures to simplify the exploitation, allocation, and management of mineral resources while encouraging investment.

Pending Bills on the Agenda

In addition to these new legislative proposals, eight bills that are already pending in Parliament are set to progress during this session. Among these, the Income Tax Bill 2025 and the Indian Ports Bill are particularly crucial, dealing with the nation's economic framework and port infrastructure.
