In the district of Valsad, Gujarat, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) unraveled a factory involved in the production of the drug mephedrone (MD) on Wednesday. The DRI team successfully arrested three individuals and seized psychotropic substances worth 2.5 billion rupees.
With acting promptly on specific information, DRI teams from Surat and Vapi launched search operations at various locations in the industrial estate, GIDC, in Umargam and Dehri of Valsad district, as narrated in a press release by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday.
According to the release, the operation was conducted on Tuesday under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and it revealed that a factory, Saurav Creations located in the GIDC area, was involved in the illegal manufacturing of the synthetic stimulant drug mephedrone.
According to PTI, a forensic science lab team from Valsad confirmed the presence of mephedrone in the suspicious psychotropic substances found at the factory. DRI stated that a total of 17.3 kilograms of MD was retrieved in liquid form from the unit. The narcotics cell from Gujarat CID assisted in the operation.
The psychotropic substances seized from the unit are valued at approximately 2.5 billion rupees in the illegal market. All the confiscated materials have been secured under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. As per the press release, three people have been apprehended under pertinent sections of the NDPS Act and further investigations are ongoing.
The operation highlights DRI's ongoing efforts in tackling the rising usage of synthetic drugs and the misuse by industrial units in manufacturing them, as noted in the release by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
