In a significant development in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, police officers have been held accountable for allegedly assaulting Dalit women. Five policemen, including the station in-charge, have been relocated following accusations made by a Dalit family from Lavāṛ, station Incholi area, regarding police brutality.

The incident began when a dispute over property between two brothers attracted police intervention, leading them to attempt to take the involved parties to the station. Women from the family protested, which reportedly resulted in a police attack on them. There are additional allegations that cases were filed against the complainants themselves. The release of a viral video related to this incident intensified the situation, culminating in the transfer of the officers involved.

SP MLA Atul Pradhan, alongside party workers and the victims, staged a protest at the SSP's office, demanding action against the accused officers. Atul Pradhan criticized the government's support by accusing the police of persecuting the poor and lodging cases against victims. He insisted on filing an FIR against the police, warning of an uprising if demands were not met.

On the other hand, CO Sadar Dehat explained that when police arrived at the scene, they were attacked by both men and women, resulting in injuries to the leading officer. An investigation into the viral video is underway to ensure impartial action.

Despite these statements, the video portrays the police engaging in acts of violence against women and men, documented from the incident on May 7th. Members of the Bhim Army joined the protest at the SSP office, demanding disciplinary action.
