On Saturday, life in the Imphal Valley came to a complete halt as various organizations called for 'Sintha Leppa' to mark the second anniversary of the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, calling for a complete boycott of daily activities.

Schools and Shops Remain Closed

Educational and commercial establishments remained shuttered throughout the day. Public transportation services were also suspended, and only a few private vehicles were spotted on the roads. Security forces were deployed at key locations in the capital to prevent any potential disturbances.

The Manipur Unity Coordination Committee (COCOMI), organizing the 'Manipur Peoples Convention' at Khuman Lampak Stadium, urged the public to pause their everyday activities and join the event in large numbers.

Public Boycotts Routine Work

This event is a moment for the state to reflect on the ongoing crisis and pay tribute to the victims of the violence. As part of the day-long program, a candlelight tribute will be held in the evening at Kangla Nongpok Thong in memory of those who lost their lives in this turmoil.

Similar scenes were observed in the Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, where normal life was effectively paused. Officials reported that all educational and commercial institutions remained closed. The 'Sintha Leppa' call garnered widespread public endorsement, indicating that the violent upheaval from two years ago continues to feel recent in the hearts of residents.
