The Mangaluru police in Karnataka have registered a case against three individuals accused of distributing allegedly fake and inflammatory content on social media related to the mob lynching incident. According to agency reports, Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated that false news was shared with the intention of inciting communal unrest. The case was filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
In Konaje, an initial event involved an accused who posted a fake message on a WhatsApp group, claiming the murder weapon had been found.
'Inflammatory Content on WhatsApp Group...'
An individual from the Barke locality posted misleading information about the matter on their Instagram page. The third complaint was registered in Kankanady Town against Zakir Hussain of the Munnur village for allegedly spreading provocative content on WhatsApp. The police have warned of strict action against those misusing digital platforms to spread misinformation and disturb public peace.
