West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that her party, the TMC, currently adopts a 'Wait and Watch' stance in national politics. She pointed out that although the India alliance has not claimed to form a government today, this does not rule out such a possibility in the future. In response to a question about attending Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony, she remarked, "Neither have I received an invitation, nor will I attend."

Following a meeting with party MPs, Mamata told the media she would be pleased to dethrone what she termed a "weak and unstable" government. She accused the BJP of forming a government through "undemocratic and illegitimate" means.

It is important to note that during the Lok Sabha elections, Mamata Banerjee's party participated independently in West Bengal but was part of the national-level India coalition. For instance, the TMC and Congress presented their candidates in all constituencies. A news agency source claimed, "The NDA government will not complete its term."

Mamata projected that the "strong and cohesive NDA government" would not last long in her address to the press post-meeting. She commented, "Let's see how long they (the BJP) can function with their allies." She suggested that members of the NDA should take a break and rest at home.

Mamata advocated for a change in leadership, asserting that the mandate was against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that "it was time for him to step down and allow someone else to take charge." Emphasizing the country's need for a transformation, she stated, "This mandate was for change. We are closely monitoring the situation and waiting."

The TMC leader disclosed her decision to abstain from the inauguration ceremony and reiterated her party's resolve to continually seek the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. She also promised a different approach in the forthcoming Lok Sabha from earlier sessions. The TMC MPs have elected her as the parliamentary party leader, with Sudip Bandyopadhyay serving as the Lok Sabha leader and Derek O'Brien as the Rajya Sabha leader.
