The District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) were addressing grievances in Kishani, Mainpuri, when a mother and daughter created a scene. Despite the DM's attempts to calm them, they refused to relent. Consequently, the DM handed them over to the police, leading to their journey to the police station where fines were levied against them.
Ashok Kumar's wife, Radha Devi, from Behramau, Kishani tehsil, attended the public hearing with her daughter. They conveyed that despite boundary markers, local aggressors refused to vacate their seized land. They accused villagers Sunil, Anil, Subhash, Kashiram, Rakesh, and Vivek of occupying the land again by erasing previous survey marks.
What is the complete case?
After listening to their grievances for five minutes, the DM assured action would follow. However, Radha Devi and her daughter Divya interrupted the revenue officials and began arguing with the DM, threatening self-harm. Despite multiple attempts from DM Anjani Kumar Singh to calm them, he had to hand over the mother and daughter to the police to prevent any untoward incidents.
Previous Incident of Self-Immolation
A similar attempt was made in the Collectorate premises two days prior. In response, District Magistrate Mainpuri took preventive measures. Consequently, the police brought both women to the station, charging them with disturbing the peace. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kishani, Gopal Sharma, granted them bail with a stern warning against future such actions.
What did Mainpuri's DM say about this incident?
District Magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh clarified that he never intended to send anyone to jail. The mother and daughter had a land dispute. I listened to their grievances and assured that an investigation would be followed by action. However, they were unyielding, repeatedly threatening self-harm. As a precaution, I sent them to the station, and once calmed, they were released home. A self-immolation attempt occurred in the Mainpuri Collectorate premises merely two days earlier. Media reports purporting otherwise are completely false and baseless.
