The ruling grand alliance in Maharashtra's local civic polls has claimed a monumental triumph. The coalition of BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) won 207 presidency seats in the 288 municipal councils and urban local bodies, showcasing formidable domination. In contrast, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) managed to grab only 44 seats.
According to the final results released late on Sunday by the State Election Commission (SEC), BJP soared as the largest party with victory in 117 presidency positions. Following them, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) claimed 53 positions, while NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) secured 37 presidencies after contesting 80 seats.

The grand alliance showed a stronghold in Pune district as well, with NCP capturing 10 out of 17 presidency positions in local councils. Overall, the Maha Vikas Aghadi trailed considerably in urban local bodies against the alliance's might.
Breakdown of Opposition Wins in Maharashtra Elections
As for the opposition, Congress secured 28 presidency seats. However, the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP managed only 7, and the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena won 9 seats. Other smaller or non-recognized parties grabbed 4 seats, while 5 Independents emerged victorious.
Two-phase Voting Conducted
Out of the 288 seats, voting occurred on December 2 and 20 in two phases for 286 spots, while candidates in two councils were elected unopposed. The results signal that the grand alliance continues to have a lasting impact in Maharashtra post the assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the grand alliance on their victory and expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra. He emphasized that the victory is a testament to people-focused developmental politics. Home Minister Amit Shah also called it a win for good governance and progress. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that BJP has set a new benchmark in urban local body elections.
