Politics in Maharashtra has drastically changed over these last five years, making this election particularly intriguing. Where there was once one Shiv Sena, now there are two factions. Similarly, the NCP has split into different groups, with the Ajit Pawar faction being recognized as the official NCP.
According to the results announced by the Election Commission for Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition has won 41 of the state's 48 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP secured victory in 23 constituencies while its ally Shiv Sena won in 18, a marginal dip from their 2014 tally of 42 seats.
The Congress party won one seat, and the NCP secured four. In the previous general elections in 2014, Congress had won two seats. AIMIM had its first MP elected from the state, winning the Aurangabad constituency. An independent candidate also claimed a victory.
