Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde received a chilling death threat via email on Thursday. The sender threatened to bomb the Shiv Sena leader's car. Gory reports of the menace reached the Ministry (State Secretariat) and were also flagged by police stations at Goregaon and JJ Marg via email. Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch have launched investigations to trace the IP address of the individual behind the death threat targeting Shinde.

With the newfound threat, Maharashtra police have beefed up security around Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This isn’t the first death threat Shinde has received; back in February 2024, a college student targetted him and his MP son, Shrikant Shinde, with threats via social media, forcing police intervention. On February 11, 2024, authorities apprehended a 19-year-old student accused of sending threats to both Shinde and his son.

This threat emerged while Shinde was attending Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's inauguration ceremony as she stepped into her new role in the capital. At the oath-taking event of Shalimar Bagh's BJP MLA, Eknath Shinde expressed, 'It is a joyous occasion that our beloved sister is taking the oath as Chief Minister in Delhi. We thank PM Modi for this.'

The Delhi government’s swearing-in ceremony was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, other central ministers, as well as NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers. Rekha Gupta is set to become Delhi's fourth woman Chief Minister, following the footsteps of former BJP's Sushma Swaraj, Congress's Sheila Dikshit, and the Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi.
