A shocking incident has come to light from Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh, where health workers misled unmarried men, mentally ill individuals, and widowers in the name of pension and performed sterilizations. The issue was uncovered when these individuals returned home and felt slight pain.
When the victims informed their families about the pain, their relatives checked the affected area. To their horror, they found stitches on the victims' genitals. Upon consulting doctors, the truth emerged about the sterilizations.
One victim from Kaithwaliya alias Bargadahi village in Nautanwa Tehsil said his wife had passed away. Two days ago, an ASHA worker came to his house and mentioned a pension scheme for widowers requiring a health check-up. During the check-up, he was sterilized. He has filed a police report regarding this incident.
Another victim shared his ordeal and demanded strict action against the culprits. He, too, lodged a complaint at the police station. He is unmarried, and yet health workers sterilized him.

District Magistrate Anunay Jha stated that a case has come to notice where people were sterilized without their knowledge. The health department is investigating the matter, and action will be taken against those found guilty. Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) mentioned that decisions would be made based on the investigation findings to identify the culprits.
According to the information received, ASHA workers and health employees in Nautanwa Tehsil offered the lure of pensions and sterilized four people from the same village. The victims and their families accused the health department of deceit. The administration is now investigating the matter thoroughly.
