Their fights even reached the police, and Mukti had to pay a $10,000 bribe to get out of it. Mukti wrote in his suicide note that Mahalakshmi tried to kill him first, but in his rage, he ended up killing her and used the knife he brought to cut her body into pieces. Interestingly, he wrote this suicide note ten days after the murder, on September 13, but committed suicide on September 25.

When Mahalakshmi's dismembered body was found in the fridge on September 21, the police also found her phone. The phone had been switched off since September 3. Mukti Ranjan Roy's number was found for the first time in her call detail records.
Mukti Ranjan Disappeared Along With Mahalakshmi
When the police interrogated the shop at the mall where Mahalakshmi worked, they learned she last visited on September 1. Upon questioning other employees, it was found that another employee was also missing since September 1, the same day Mahalakshmi disappeared. This employee was Mukti Ranjan Roy. When the police began examining Mukti's call detail records, they found that his mobile was located near Mahalakshmi's house on September 2 and 3, which aroused their suspicion.
Mukti Ranjan's Brother Revealed the Secret
During the investigation, it came to light that Mukti Ranjan Roy lived with his younger brother in a rented house close to Mahalakshmi's home. Three teams from Bengaluru police reached Bhubaneswar. The local police were informed about Mukti. Meanwhile, on the night of September 24, around 10 PM, Mukti quietly arrived at his village in Bhadrak district. He confessed to his mother about killing Mahalakshmi after reaching home.
Mukti's Mother Made Serious Allegations
Mukti Ranjan's mother alleged that most of Mukti's salary was spent on Mahalakshmi, who constantly demanded more money and gifts from him. After spending about six hours at home, around 4 AM, when everyone was sleeping, Mukti took his bag and laptop, borrowed his father's motorcycle, and left. He rode about 3 kilometers away and hanged himself from a tree in the darkness of the night.

The Suicide Note Was in His Diary
After Mukti Ranjan Roy's death, the police searched his bag and found a diary. On one of its pages was Mukti’s handwritten suicide note. After the autopsy, the Odisha police handed over Mukti's body to his family, who then performed the last rites. Bengaluru police also reached the spot. Through the court, they took possession of Mukti's suicide note for further investigation.
