The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 saw a face-off on Tuesday between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Yet again, Rishabh Pant—one of the most expensive players in IPL history and captain of Lucknow—disappointed. He was out for just 2 runs.

Most Expensive Player, Lackluster Performance

Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow for a whopping 270 million, but his batting has left fans disappointed. In three matches, Pant has only managed a total of 17 runs with his bat.

Lucknow started the season against Delhi Capitals. In this opening match, Rishabh Pant was unable to score, prey to Kuldeep Yadav. In the second match, Pant managed only 15 runs before being taken by Harshal Patel. In the third match, expectations were high for Pant to deliver a stellar performance on his home ground, yet he was dismissed for just 2 runs by Maxwell, at a crucial moment when Lucknow had already lost two wickets during the powerplay.

In this match, Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. Lockie Ferguson was inducted into Punjab's squad, while Lucknow made no changes. The game took place at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

This was a duel between IPL's costliest player Rishabh Pant, bought by LSG for 270 million during the IPL 2025 mega auction, and the second-highest-paid player Shreyas Iyer, acquired by Punjab Kings for 267.5 million.
