Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has taken a significant step by applying to surrender his Indian passport at the Indian High Commission in London. This development was confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday. Known for obtaining citizenship of the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, Modi left India in 2010 and has since taken up residence in London.
The former IPL chairman remains on the wanted list of Indian law enforcement agencies. Accusations have been made against him regarding his involvement in embezzling significant sums during his tenure as the top boss of the IPL.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal commented, "Lalit Modi has applied to surrender his passport at the Indian High Commission in London."
He further stated that the application will be processed in accordance with current rules and procedures. It has also been reported that he successfully acquired Vanuatu citizenship. We continue to handle the case against him within the framework of the law.
