In a shocking incident from Hampi, Karnataka, police have arrested two individuals in connection with the assault of a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and two other women. The search for the third suspect is still underway. Koppal's Superintendent of Police, Ram El Arasididi, stated, "We've apprehended two of the three accused; efforts are ongoing to catch the third." The suspects, identified as Mallesh and Chetan Sai, are both 21 years old and hail from Sai Nagar, Gangavathi, working as masons.
The Opposition BJP in Karnataka has criticized the Congress government over this incident, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured that his government is committed to ensuring the safety of all tourists visiting the state. The incident occurred around 11 PM near Sanapur Lake, where the victims were enjoying music alongside three male tourists.

Trouble Sparked by Petrol Station Inquiry
According to police, the homestay operator reported that three men on motorcycles approached, inquiring about a nearby petrol station. After being informed there wasn't one nearby, they demanded ₹100. The homestay operator, unfamiliar with the men, claimed she didn't have money. A visiting tourist from Odisha eventually handed them a ₹20 note.
Tourists Thrown into Canal; One Perishes
The situation escalated as the men became agitated, threatening with stones. After verbally abusing the group, they attacked the tourists physically. Following the assault, the homestay operator and Israeli tourist were severely mistreated, with one tourist later succumbing to injuries after being thrown into a canal. The accused fled post-incident, taking valuables from the victims, including cash and mobile phones.

Condemnation from the Chief Minister
Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah labeled it a heinous crime. "Upon learning of this incident, I instructed police for a thorough investigation." He reassured that measures are being taken to ensure tourist safety, promising actions to prevent such future occurrences.
Opposition Calls for Accountability
Despite these assurances, BJP's BY Vijayendra expressed disappointment, highlighting the rising crime against women across the state. "The contrast between Karnataka's proud past and its chaotic present is truly disheartening," he stated.
Accusations fly high against the state government, with strident claims about their failure to protect citizens, especially following the celebrated Hampi Fest, which honored the grandeur of the Vijayanagara Empire.
