Comedian Kunal Kamra stirred social media by commenting on Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. He posted briskly on X, declaring, 'The only way forward…'. This message accompanied a photo where Kamra displays a compact copy of the Indian Constitution, which recently gained attention.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi previously showcased similar copies from Parliament to public arenas, campaigning for constitutional protection against the ruling forces.
Following Kamra's viral video, this post captivated over 500,000 viewers.
Kunal Kamra, renowned for his witty observations, incited significant uproar with a video from one of his shows that he shared on X.
In this show, Kamra parodied a song from Bollywood hit 'Dil To Pagal Hai', critiquing Maharashtra's Deputy CM Eknath Shinde—infuriating Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leaders.
The video’s virality triggered an aggressive response from Shiv Sena leaders (Shinde faction).
The emergence of the video led to outraged Shiv Sainiks vandalizing a studio and the Unicontinental Hotel in Mumbai’s Khar region, claiming it as the video’s recording site. Meanwhile, an FIR was registered at the MIDC police station against Kunal Kamra following complaints by Shinde Sena legislator Muraji Patel. Recently, Congress leader and prominent Mumbai political figure Sanjay Nirupam posted a controversial remark, announcing an impending protest against Kamra at 11 AM.
According to a police official, after Kamra’s provocative video mocking Shinde went viral, party workers stormed the hotel auditorium, causing damage.
Latest reports indicate Khar police detained Shiv Sena's Yuva Sena Secretary Rahul Kanal amidst charges against 19 accused and 15-20 unidentified individuals.
Kamra’s video, controversial for lyrics like, ‘Thane's rickshaw, beard on the face…’ mentions places like ‘Guwahati, traitor’. The video remains on Kamra’s X timeline.
Shinde Faction Furious
Reacting to Kamra’s video, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora wrote on X, 'Mocking Eknath Shinde Ji, who rose from an auto driver to the CM of India’s second-largest state, reveals a whiff of elitist arrogance. India rejects entitled rulers and sycophantic ecosystems pretending to champion meritocracy and democracy.'
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaskar warned Kamra of relentless pursuit by Shiv Sena workers nationwide, declaring in a video message, "You will be forced to flee India."
Thackeray Faction Supports Kamra
Aditya Thackeray of Shiv Sena UBT supported Kamra, asserting the parody song was entirely truthful. In an X post, Thackeray wrote, ‘Mindes (read Shinde) cowardly gang wrecked the comedy stage where comedian Kamra sang about Eknath Minde, portraying it as 100 percent true. Only an insecure coward would react to a parody.'
He continued, 'Meanwhile, what about state law and order? Another feeble attempt by Eknath Minde to undermine CM and Home Minister roles.'
Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut added, 'Kunal Kamra, a notable writer and stand-up comedian, penned a satirical song about Maharashtra politics, unsettling the Shinde faction. Their cohorts vandalized Kamra’s studio. Devendraji, your tenure as Home Minister portrays weakness!'
