In the bustling locality of Dum Dum in Kolkata, West Bengal, a woman has been arrested for the murder of her live-in partner, a crime she reported to the police herself.
A distressed call led the police to a grim scene; a young man found drenched in blood with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to the Sagar Dutta Hospital in Kamarhati where he was declared dead.
The victim, photographer Sarthak Das, was living in a rented flat with his partner, makeup artist Sanhati Paul. Their relationship had recently soured, culminating in a fatal altercation on that fateful Wednesday morning.
Sanhati Paul, after attacking Sarthak with a sharp knife several times, contacted the police and subsequently confessed to her actions. She was arrested by the Nagerbazar police station where a murder case was filed against her.
An eyewitness, Sanjay Bose, voiced his shock, narrating how he learned of the gruesome incident early in the morning. 'I was opening my shop when I heard that a lady had killed her partner. The police arrived, took the body into custody, and escorted the woman out. They had been known locally as a couple living together.'
