A woman in Kolkata has accused three men of gang-raping her inside a stationary commercial vehicle. This heinous act was perpetrated on Sunday in the Pragati Maidan area of Eastern Kolkata. In the evening, the woman was coaxed by three acquaintances with an invitation for tea, followed by the crime inside the vehicle. The Pragati Maidan police have swiftly apprehended two accused named in the FIR.
The two have been presented to the Alipore court and are currently under police custody until March 22 as the investigation deepens. The detained individuals have reportedly confessed to their participation in the crime during interrogation. An intense manhunt is underway for the remaining fugitive, hailing from the Anandapur area in Kolkata. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized by the police.

An unfortunate familiarity: Victim knew her assailants
According to the police, the victim and the suspects knew each other. Before committing the alleged crime, the accused had plotted the assault under the pretense of having afternoon tea. As per the plan, one of the men borrowed his brother's vehicle to execute the felonious act. The perpetrators led the woman to the Pragati Maidan area in Eastern Kolkata and are alleged to have raped her inside the car.
Victim files written complaint against three assailants
The police report that on Monday afternoon, a 19-year-old woman approached the Pragati Maidan police station accusing three known individuals of gang-raping her under the guise of offering tea and snacks in a van. Upon her written statement, the police initiated immediate action under IPC Section 376D and filed an FIR.
Police facilitate medical examination for the victim
Subsequently, an investigation was promptly launched by the Pragati Maidan police station. As part of the inquiry, the victim underwent a medical examination at the NRS Medical College & Hospital. Police sources aim to determine whether the victim was under the influence of narcotics during the ordeal.
