The country is enraged following the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Resident doctors are continuously protesting. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the CBI for investigation. However, the anger of the protesting doctors has not yet subsided. They have raised several questions regarding this case.
Doctors at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical Hospital state that the seminar hall where this heinous crime took place should have been sealed. Why was the seminar hall not sealed?
The protesting doctors argue that the reason given for keeping the seminar hall open was due to repair work. However, repair work was supposed to take place in the neighboring room, not the seminar hall. The seminar hall also lacked a CCTV camera. This is a form of negligence. The protestors have also questioned the construction work in front of the seminar hall, suggesting it was started to tamper with evidence.
The protesting doctors from Lucknow's KGMU assert that the Bengal High Court has handed the investigation over to the CBI. However, crucial evidence in this crime has been destroyed. So, how will an impartial investigation be conducted?
The protesting doctors from Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital state that they have four demands. The first demand was for the CBI to handle the investigation. However, the High Court had to intervene to fulfill this demand; the government did not comply on its own. The second demand is for a written assurance to implement the Central Protection Act (CPA). But so far, no assurance has been provided by the government, rather, they are just stalling. The third demand is the immediate and permanent dismissal of the high authority involved in this case. The fourth demand is for compensation of at least 10 million rupees to the family.
Photos of the seminar hall at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical Hospital, where the female doctor's body was found, have surfaced. The hall contained wooden and plastic chairs along with patient beds. The pictures suggest that unused hospital items were stored there, and various types of machines were also kept in the hall.
It was in this very seminar hall where the female resident doctor's body was found. According to the information, the lady doctor had dinner in this hall with her four colleagues. After dinner, her colleagues left while the female resident doctor decided to stay. It was in this seminar hall that the accused raped and brutally murdered the resident doctor.
The Murder Followed the Rape
On August 9, a female resident doctor's body was found in the seminar hall of Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was on duty at the government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the night of August 8 when she was raped and murdered.
The post-mortem report, which the police have handed over to the victim's family, has also been revealed in this case. The report indicates that the victim was strangled to death after being raped. The accused strangled her twice. Her death occurred between 3 to 5 AM.
Accused Sanjay Was Addicted to Watching Pornographic Films
Police have arrested the accused, Sanjay Roy. He was neither a hospital staff member nor a relative of any patient. Sanjay Roy worked as a civic volunteer for Kolkata Police. It is reported that he was addicted to drinking alcohol while watching pornographic films. On the night of the incident, he entered and exited the hospital multiple times.
When any policeman was admitted to RG Kar Medical College, Sanjay Roy was present to help them by bringing medicines and providing other assistance. However, on the day of the incident, he did not come to the hospital for any work. That day, he came to the rear part of the hospital to drink alcohol, watched pornographic videos on his mobile after drinking, and then executed the crime.
