The CBI arrested Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, on Monday. The investigative agency caught him after about 15 days of interrogation on corruption charges at the institution. Sandeep Ghosh was summoned to the CBI office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, for questioning. Following this, he was taken to the Anti-Corruption Wing at the CBI's Nizam Palace, where he was officially arrested. He was arrested along with Biplav Singh, Suman Hajra, and Officer Ali Khan.

Dr. Akhtar Ali, former superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had lodged several complaints regarding financial irregularities during Sandeep Ghosh's tenure as principal. The accusations included the trafficking of unclaimed corpses at the hospital, corruption in the disposal of bio-medical waste, and nepotism in construction tenders. Initially investigated by Kolkata police, the probe was handed over to the CBI by order of the High Court.

On August 19, the Kolkata police registered a case against Sandeep Ghosh under sections 120B, 420 of the IPC, and section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Following a High Court order, the CBI took over the investigation on August 24. He was arrested under the same sections. In this corruption case, Ma Tara Traders, Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Ishan Cafe, 4/1, Belgachia; and Khama Louha are also accused.

CBI has Interrogated Sandeep Ghosh for Over 150 Hours

The CBI has questioned Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for over 150 hours. He was also interrogated in connection with the rape and murder investigation of a postgraduate trainee doctor on the morning of August 9. The CBI conducted a polygraph test on Sandeep twice to uncover all the facts related to this case. During the first test, Sandeep gave unsatisfactory answers.

CBI officers searched Sandeep Ghosh's home and hospital. One officer mentioned that three teams were formed to investigate the financial irregularities. The first team inspected the hospital's mortuary, inquiring about the infrastructure, the preservation of bodies, and the protocols involved in post-mortem examinations. The five-member team also spoke with hospital doctors and staff, including Dr. Saptarshi Chatterjee.

Bribes Were Taken to Pass Failing Students

The CBI's second team visited the third floor of RG Kar Hospital's emergency building, where the victim was on duty that night, and inspected the crime scene. They spoke with nurses and other hospital staff. Prior to this, only one arrest had been made in the case — the main accused Sanjay Roy, who is currently in judicial custody. Now, with Sandeep Ghosh's arrest, he becomes the second significant arrest in this case. Former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, Akhtar Ali, had pointed out numerous financial irregularities during Sandeep Ghosh's tenure. He stated that Sandeep was involved in several unethical activities and corruption. Students were deliberately failed and then passed in exchange for money. Complaints were made to the Vigilance Committee, and Akhtar participated in the investigation, but he was transferred before the final report was completed.

Former Principal Sandeep Ghosh had Personal Bouncer Sanjay Roy!

Akhtar Ali also alleged that the main accused in the female doctor's heinous assault, Sanjay Roy, worked as a bouncer for former principal Sandeep Ghosh. This direct link between Sanjay and Sandeep deepened the case significantly. Akhtar stated, ''Upon seeing the picture of the accused Sanjay Roy, I recalled that he was one of the four bouncers of Sandeep Ghosh.''

He further added, ''When I was working there, nobody was allowed to enter the seminar room or nursing staff area at night. Security was present at every point. CCTV cameras were installed, yet a volunteer entered a room at night, leading to such a significant incident; it's beyond comprehension. It could be a larger conspiracy.'' After the revelation of this horrific murder, accusations of negligence were also made against Sandeep, who allegedly attempted to cover up the incident.
