On Tuesday, junior doctors from various medical colleges rallied up to the Kolkata Police Headquarters at Lalbazar to demand the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Despite being stopped at BB Ganguly Street, they remained firm. Later, Commissioner Goyal met with the junior doctors, and their meeting lasted around three hours.

The students handed over a memorandum demanding his resignation. After a lengthy discussion, the Police Commissioner said he wouldn't oppose the decision if the higher authorities decided to remove him. The junior doctors voiced their concerns over the incident that night as a failure of the police force, stating they handed over a copy of the memorandum that the Commissioner accepted.

During this period, Doctor-Actor Kinjal Nanda stated that the Police Commissioner failed to provide answers concerning the incidents on the 9th, 12th, and 14th. Therefore, their movement will continue, starting at 9 PM tonight. Participants will turn off their home lights and carry candles on the streets, forming a human chain as a sign of solidarity.

Earlier, the protesting doctors, along with many common people and students from other educational institutions, stayed at BB Ganguly Street near Lalbazar throughout Monday night. A large contingent of Kolkata Police officers guarded the opposite side of a chain-bound barricade secured with padlocks.

Junior doctors placed replicas of a spine and red roses on the barricades to emphasize the police force's duty to safeguard citizens. One protesting doctor told PTI, 'This wasn't part of our plan. We had no idea Kolkata Police would be so intimidated as to erect a 9-foot-tall barricade to stop us. We will continue our protest until we reach Lalbazar and meet the Commissioner of Police. We will stay here until we are allowed to do so.'

Later, Additional Commissioner of Police (II) Santosh Pandey arrived with other officers and forces to calm the doctors. However, the talks were inconclusive as the doctors insisted on marching to the Kolkata Police Headquarters and handing over their delegation demanding the Police Commissioner's resignation, which was later accepted.

Earlier, the doctors began their march towards Lalbazar around 2 PM on Monday, holding placards with Goyal's pictures demanding his resignation. After being stopped at BB Ganguly Street, they even burned the Police Commissioner's effigy. They raised slogans, demanding severe punishment for those responsible for the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The medics accused the police of not taking adequate steps during the investigation of the young doctor's alleged rape and murder on August 9, even though the Calcutta High Court assigned the case to the CBI.
