From planning a honeymoon to choosing routes, attire, and budgeting, Sonam made every decision, with King bowing in agreement, unaware of his wife's motives to secure his acquiescence. Sonam was plotting a conspiracy that would lead him straight to his doom.
A Relationship that Began with Introduction Brochure
King Raghuwanshi hailed from a transporter's family in Indore. His family consisted of parents, two brothers, and sisters-in-law. Sonam's family resided in Kushwah Nagar, Indore, where her father ran a plywood business. King and Sonam's relationship was recorded in the Raghuwanshi community introduction brochure, leading to contact between the families and the finalization of their marriage. King's family formally visited Sonam's household and expressed their liking. With that, the marriage was set. King's mother, Uma Raghuwanshi, recalls how they warmly welcomed their daughter-in-law. Conversations with her mother seemed reassuring, and things appeared fine.
The Wedding, and Departure After Four Days
On May 11, 2025, King and Sonam had a grand wedding in the presence of society. That same night, Sonam arrived at her marital home but returned to her parents only four days later. It was the month of Jeth, so the formal 'Pagphere' ritual had not occurred yet. Uma Raghuwanshi mentions they requested to call back Sonam, but her mother replied – she will be called in June.
Every Whim of Sonam that King Followed
King was not keen on going for a honeymoon. The family mentioned planning to go in June after Pagphere. But Sonam insisted over the phone on going to Shillong, and King agreed. He didn't mention this to anyone, indicating he couldn't refuse Sonam. According to the family, King wasn’t fond of mountains, but Sonam enchanted him with dreams of lush greenery in Shillong. He agreed. With that, their honeymoon plan was made, and on May 20, they departed for Meghalaya.
From Attire to Money, Everything as Sonam Said
King usually avoided wearing gold or silver items outside, but Sonam suggested wearing a gold chain and ring. King complied and adorned them. King’s mother learned from an airport photo that he was wearing jewelry. Moreover, King also took money from home, as Sonam advised. The family claims he never made such elaborate preparations usually but did as Sonam directed this time.
A Shortcut Leading to Death
On May 23, they arrived in Nongrihat village. Sonam suggested a shortcut to reach faster. King had mentioned to his mother over the phone that Sonam was taking him through a deserted path. King disliked such routes but followed his wife's lead. Now, with the murder unveiled, the family senses – that shortcut was essentially part of a death plan. The isolated path was chosen to execute the murder in secrecy.
Phone Forced to Switch Off
The family mentions the last communication with King was on May 24. After that, the phone was off. Family members kept calling but couldn't reach him. Suspicion arises that Sonam coerced King to switch off his phone to prevent any contact.
Confession and Unfolding of the Conspiracy
Indore Crime Branch's interrogation led to all four accused admitting their guilt. It was revealed that Sonam, along with her lover and accomplices, plotted King's murder. Each step, from taking him to the hills and isolated places, was part of the plan. Post-murder, the body was dumped under a bridge, where on May 27, police found an abandoned body.
